Bishop Norman J. Hairston, II
Bishop Norman J. Hairston, II is the son of The Late Dr. Norman L. Hairston, Sr. and Marilyn Ashe Hairston. He learned early in life to seek God’s consciousness by his father’s lessons of Faith.
Bishop Hairston accepted his calling under the leadership of his mentor and cousin The Late Elder Richard L. Hairston, Sr. in Erie, Penn at The Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ. He was called to Pastor his first church, New Hope Baptist in Detroit, Texas in 1991. After a short while, he organized the Galilee Baptist Church.
In 1994, his father asked him to come and assist him at the Zion Progressive Baptist Church. Better preparing him for ministry, God allowed Bishop Hairston to accept the call to Pastor the New Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in 1996. After serving diligently for eight years, God directed his father to ask him to continue the legacy. In January, 2003, he was confirmed and robed as the Senior Pastor of what is now known as Zion Progressive Cathedral International, Incorporated. In 2006, he was appointed Overseer for the State of Indiana in the United Covenant Churches of Christ (UCCC), and became the CEO of City of Zion, Inc. in 2010. In July of 2012, he was consecrated a Bishop in the Lord's House.
Bishop Hairston has served as CEO and Spiritual Advisor for many music ministries in Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and Indiana. He has been the featured guest on Rev. Pharis Evans Jr.’s CD entitled “Ready, Willing and Able”, Dr. Booker J. Person’s CD entitled, “I Trust in God” and also James Lewis and the Unik Voices of Faith of Houston, Texas CD entitled "Just For Me" and Bishop Larry D. Trotter’s CD entitled “How Far Back Can You Go”.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies and an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree. Bishop Hairston currently serves as the General Treasurer of United. He previously served as the National Secretary of Finance, Suffragan Bishop for the State of Indiana, National Minister of Worship and Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Presiding Bishop.
Bishop Hairston is committed to his community and serves on various boards and community organizations. He has served on Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson Stop the Violence Board, Calumet Township Workforce Advisory Council, Establishmentarian of City of Zion, Inc., President of the Interfaith Clergy Council of Northwest Indiana, member of One Church One School, Advisory Council Urban League of Northwest Indiana, Second Chance Foundation, Gary City Drug Court, City of Gary Police Department and Lake County Sheriff Police Chaplaincy Chairman of the Gary Civil Service Fire Commissioners Board and Genesis Center Convention Center Board many others.
Through his leadership, God has made Zion Progressive Cathedral International a beacon light shining in the community, and a church setting the standard for changing a generation. Bishop Hairston is a sought after evangelist, preacher, teacher, prophet, administrator and counselor. He is proud to serve this present age, excited about the future and "Changing Lives One Life at A Time."
Bishop Hairston is the father of three children, NaQuita Jenae, Faith Antoinette, Norman Joel III.
